When school started after the Christmas holidays, the 600 students from grades 1 to 7 from Nanset and Frostvedt schools in Larvik were able to take their places at a brand new and modern school. The school is one of the country’s largest primary schools with four parallels and a building area of ​​12,500 square meters. But Fagerli school is not just a school.
– The building complex also contains a multi-purpose hall, a kindergarten and a family center, says project manager Cand. arch. Hallgrimur Thor Sigurdsson.

Large project
Sigurdsson is a partner in Nordic Office of Architecture, the architectural firm that won the competition for the project in collaboration with the total talent contractor Hent. Nordic Office of Architecture worked continuously for three years on the project, which had a cost framework of 244 million kroner.

. – The challenges with large projects are finding the right approach, says Sigurdsson.

Project manager Cand. arch. Hallgrimur Thor Sigurdsson at Nordic Office of Architecture chose Steni’s facade panels, among other things, because of their quality and detailing options.

The right approach
The approach that the architectural team took is based on the fact that the building complex had many different programs.
– We chose to place the different buildings around a common area, both outside and inside, says the architect. The building surrounds a square, or heart room, which functions as a common meeting place. The square changes character throughout the day, depending on who uses it.
